Radon is a colourless, odourless gas that comes up from the ground and can collect inside a home, mostly in basements and lower levels. You cannot see it or smell it, so the only way to know your level is to test.
Professional radon testing measures the concentration of radon in your home so you can take action if the level is elevated. Levels vary from home to home, even between neighbours on the same street, so your own test is the only reliable answer.

Testing is straightforward and non-invasive. Here is what the process looks like:
A measurement device is placed in the lowest level of the home that is used as living space, which is where radon concentrations tend to be highest. Placement matters, so the device is positioned away from drafts, exterior doors, and direct sunlight.
The device stays in position for a set period to capture an accurate reading. The home should be kept closed up in the normal way during the test, which is why fall and winter are often the best time to test on Vancouver Island.
Once the test period is complete, the results tell you the concentration in your home and whether action is recommended. I go through the findings with you in plain language so you know exactly what they mean and what your options are.
